Let them kiddies breathe!

I’m following with interest the campaign to ban smoking in cars in which children are being carried.  (The House of Lords likes the look of it, apparently – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25939908 )

Instinctively, I’m cautious about governments banning things, but this is one restriction I’d find it hard to oppose.

When I see someone smoking all over their children, I’m hit by a mixture of anger and sadness.  Your kids come into this world with lovely pink lungs, all pure and unspoilt.  How can it be right to sit there and puff smoke all over them in that confined space?

Yes, I come at this from the privileged position of being a non-smoker, so not subject to the awful craving for nicotine.  Holier Than Thou is never a good place to be, and I hope I’m not bounding into that area now…..but, for me, on this one, I say “BAN AWAY!”

I’m an occasional smoker – but I wouldn’t dream of asking those around me to tolerate the smell. Only an utter selfish buffoon would smoke in a car with children present.
